Adesso Wine Club | July 2026

A Taste of Summer: The Ohio Harvest Meets the World

Tonight, we’re traveling through Uruguay, New Zealand, Tuscany, Campania, and California, but every plate is built from the Ohio harvest at its peak. The wines tell the story of where they came from. The food tells the story of where we are.

There’s something magical about July in Ohio. Farmers’ markets are overflowing with peaches still warm from the sun, sweet corn picked that morning, vibrant tomatoes, fragrant herbs, and zucchini at its absolute best. Rather than creating a menu around imported ingredients, this month’s Wine Club celebrates the bounty growing right here at home.

Each course has been thoughtfully paired with wines that express their own unique sense of place, from the limestone soils of Uruguay to the volcanic hillsides of Campania. Together, the food and wine create a conversation between two worlds, one rooted in the vineyards of renowned wine regions, the other in the fields and farms of Ohio at the height of summer.

We invite you to slow down, savor each pairing, and discover how thoughtfully chosen food can transform a great wine into an unforgettable experience.

First Pour

2025 Familia Deicas “Faaa!” Albariño

Juanicó, Canelones, Uruguay

Bright and refreshing, this sustainably farmed Albariño bursts with aromas of apricot, white peach, honeydew melon, spring flowers, and lemon zest. Five months resting on its fine lees lend the wine a subtle creaminess, while vibrant acidity and a saline, mineral finish make it exceptionally food-friendly.

Paired With

Charred Ohio Peaches

Local Honey • Pistachio Dukkah • Fresh Basil • Lemon Zest

Peak-season Ohio peaches are lightly charred to deepen their natural sweetness while preserving their freshness. Local honey enhances the fruit without overwhelming it, basil contributes an aromatic lift, pistachio dukkah adds texture and spice, and fresh lemon zest mirrors the citrus energy of the wine.

Why It Works

This pairing is built around harmony. The peaches echo the Albariño’s own stone fruit character, while lemon zest amplifies its vibrant acidity. The wine’s saline minerality provides balance against the honey, and the toasted pistachios add richness without masking the wine’s elegance. The result is a pairing that feels effortless, bright, and unmistakably like an Ohio summer evening.

Second Pour

2024 La Lizza Chianti Classico

Castelnuovo Berardenga, Tuscany

Produced primarily from Sangiovese, this Chianti Classico offers aromas of fresh violets, strawberry, subtle oak spice, and pencil shavings. Bright acidity and fine structure make it one of Italy’s most versatile food wines.

Paired With

Grilled Ohio Zucchini Roll-Ups

Local Chèvre • Lemon Zest • Fresh Mint • Fresh Thyme • Toasted Walnuts • Peppery Extra Virgin Olive Oil • Flaky Sea Salt

Thin ribbons of locally grown zucchini are grilled to bring out their natural sweetness before being wrapped around creamy chèvre accented with fresh herbs, citrus, and toasted walnuts.

Why It Works

Classic Italian wines often shine alongside simple vegetables, herbs, and olive oil. The creamy chèvre softens the wine’s acidity, thyme and mint echo its herbal complexity, and toasted walnuts complement the wine’s subtle oak influence. The zucchini remains the star of the plate, showcasing one of Ohio’s most abundant summer vegetables while allowing the Chianti’s freshness and savory character to shine.

Third Pour

2023 Mount Riley Pinot Noir

Marlborough, New Zealand

Elegant and expressive, this Pinot Noir offers layers of red and black berries, mint, forest floor, and gentle French oak spice. Bright acidity and soft tannins make it an ideal partner for earthy summer flavors.

2021 Molettieri “Ischa Piana” Aglianico

Campania, Italy

Organically farmed on volcanic soils, this Aglianico delivers notes of blackcurrant, tobacco, wild herbs, ash, and mineral-driven structure with remarkable depth and length.

Paired With

Sweet Corn & Roasted Tomato Bruschetta

Grilled Ohio Sweet Corn • Slow-Roasted Cherry Tomatoes • Fresh Basil • Shallot • White Wine Vinegar • Pecorino Toscano • Grilled Ciabatta • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Nothing says late July in Ohio quite like sweet corn and tomatoes. This bruschetta celebrates both, layering smoky grilled corn with concentrated roasted tomatoes, fragrant basil, and the salty richness of Pecorino.

Why It Works

The Pinot Noir finds harmony in the roasted tomatoes, fresh herbs, and gentle sweetness of the corn, allowing its bright fruit and earthy complexity to emerge. The Aglianico, with its volcanic minerality and structured tannins, embraces the smoky char of the grilled corn, the savory Pecorino, and the umami of roasted tomatoes. Two very different wines reveal two entirely different dimensions of the same dish.

Bonus Pour

2022 BloodRoot Cabernet Sauvignon

Sonoma County, California

Inspired by the balanced California Cabernets of the 1970s and 1980s, BloodRoot combines black cherry, blackberry, graphite, cinnamon, cracked pepper, and velvety tannins into a Cabernet that is both powerful and graceful.

Paired With

uGO Gelato Piedmont Hazelnut Gelato

Fresh Mint

Crafted by our friends at uGO Gelato using prized Piedmont hazelnuts, this simple finale celebrates exceptional craftsmanship. A single sprig of fresh mint is all that’s needed to finish the evening.

Why It Works

The roasted hazelnuts naturally complement Cabernet’s dark fruit and subtle oak character, while the restrained sweetness allows the wine to remain expressive rather than overwhelmed. Ending the evening with locally crafted, internationally inspired gelato is a fitting conclusion to a menu that has celebrated both Ohio’s harvest and the traditions of great wine regions around the world.

A Final Thought

Great wine always tells the story of where it comes from.

Tonight, so does the food.

As you enjoy each pairing, we hope you’ll taste not only the vineyards of Uruguay, New Zealand, Tuscany, Campania, and California, but also the farms, orchards, and artisans that make an Ohio summer so special.

Thank you for joining us for another evening of discovery, conversation, and exceptional wine.

Cheers,

The Adesso Wine Club
